milford pet Laser TherapyIf your four-legged friend is experiencing arthritis pain or any other type of pain, but you don’t want to have to resort to pain meds, we can help. Animal Clinic of Milford now offers Companion® laser therapy for dogs and cats. Laser therapy is a non-invasive modality that has been clinically proven to provide pain relief treatment and other benefits for a number of conditions. Whether your pet is healing from a wound or rehabilitating from an injury, this surgery-free, drug-free treatment option can provide the relief they need.

How Does Laser Therapy Work?

Companion® laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate body cells to heal from within, which results in a therapeutic effect. Using a hand piece, the laser light safely penetrates the skin for about 8 minutes. This causes an increase in blood flow, oxygen concentration, and inhibit inflammation in damaged tissue. As a result, your pet can experience relief from pain, an increase in circulation, a decrease in inflammation, and faster healing.

About the Laser Therapy Session at our Milford Clinic

Each laser therapy session is safe, effective, and painless, and in many cases, pets experience immediate relief. Most pets feel a warm, soothing sensation comparable to a massage during treatment. Some sessions are as short as 5 minutes while others may take 10 minutes. The length of the session is dependent on the condition being treated. The number of sessions also varies from pet to pet. For some pets, one session is sufficient to see results while for other pets, weekly treatments are required. Although no surgery or sedation is required, what IS required is protective eyewear for everyone in close proximity to the laser.

What Conditions Does Laser Therapy Treat?

There are more than a dozen conditions that can be treated with laser therapy, including (but not limited to):

  • Arthritis/degenerative joint disease/hip dysplasia
  • Acute pain
  • Wounds
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Post dental procedures
  • Fractures
  • Skin conditions
  • Neurological conditions
